Henry Jenkins @ OIT recently sent out the following message about changes regarding Docker licensing policies. Docker has transitioned to a paid licensing model for several of its products. This change may impact some of the tools and workflows you or your teams use.

Products Affected by the New Licensing Model:

  • Docker Desktop: The most significant change applies to Docker Desktop. For teams using Docker Desktop for Windows or macOS, a subscription is now required for any use beyond personal or educational purposes.
  • Docker Hub: The free tier of Docker Hub now comes with limited features and usage. Teams using Docker Hub for private repositories or with increased usage limits will need a subscription.
  • Docker Enterprise: As part of Docker’s ongoing enterprise offering, Docker Enterprise solutions will also now require paid licenses for access to certain features and support.
